Uma estranha mistura de dirig\u00edvel, helic\u00f3ptero e avi\u00e3o, o ve\u00edculo decolar\u00e1 de Cardington, um vilarejo 70 km ao norte de Londres, com seus 92 metros de comprimento, 18 a mais que os maiores &#8220;gigantes&#8221; da avia\u00e7\u00e3o comercial, o Airbus 380 e o Boeing 747-8.<\/p>\n<p>Baseado originalmente em um projeto militar americano, o Airlander 10 saiu do papel gra\u00e7as \u00e0 empresa Hybrid Air Vehicles, que adaptou os planos para desenvolver o que chama de uma nova gera\u00e7\u00e3o de aeronaves silenciosas, energeticamente eficientes e que n\u00e3o afetam o meio ambiente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>Autonomia<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Segundo a empresa, a aeronave \u00e9 70% mais &#8220;verde&#8221; do que um t\u00edpico avi\u00e3o de carga, mas a grande vantagem \u00e9 a versatilidade: o Airlander 10, al\u00e9m de decolar verticalmente, pode aterrissar da mesma maneira em uma s\u00e9rie de superf\u00edcies, inclusive a \u00e1gua.<\/p>\n<p>Isso poderia fazer dele um ve\u00edculo bastante \u00fatil para transportar cargas para locais de dif\u00edcil acesso, como zonas de desastres sem pistas de pouso. De acordo com o fabricante, o Airlander \u00e9 capaz de suportar ventos de mais de 120 km\/h quando est\u00e1 ancorado no solo.<\/p>\n<p>Com capacidade para transportar at\u00e9 10 toneladas de carga e 48 passageiros, o Airlander promete tamb\u00e9m autonomia maior que a concorr\u00eancia. E seus custos tamb\u00e9m s\u00e3o uma fra\u00e7\u00e3o em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com a concorr\u00eancia: cerca de US$ 11 milh\u00f5es &#8211; a maior parte deste valor veio de financiamentos do governo brit\u00e2nico e da Uni\u00e3o Europeia, mas uma campanha de financiamento coletivo arrecadou mais de US$ 3,3 milh\u00f5es.<\/p>\n<p>O Airlander conta com um charme especial por ter sido constru\u00eddo no Hangar 1, em Cardington, as mesmas instala\u00e7\u00f5es em que foi produzido o primeiro dirig\u00edvel do mundo, em 1918. Agora, a Hybrid Air Vehicles quer fabricar at\u00e9 2021, pelo menos 10 unidades por ano.<\/p>\n<p>E isso inclui desafiar o que especialistas em transporte a\u00e9reo classificam como um tabu da ind\u00fastria: em 1937, o mais famoso dirig\u00edvel da \u00e9poca, o Hindenburg, incendiou-se enquanto aterrissava em Nova Jersey, matando 35 pessoas.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;O desastre matou a ind\u00fastria&#8221;, escreveu o historiador John Swinfield.
