–<\/em><\/strong> Um terremoto de magnitude 7,8 atingiu a Turquia e o noroeste da S\u00edria na manh\u00e3 desta segunda.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Segundo o Servi\u00e7o Geol\u00f3gico dos Estados Unidos (USGS), o tremor foi t\u00e3o forte quanto um registrado no pa\u00eds em 1939, que vitimou mais de 30 mil pessoas.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> A destrui\u00e7\u00e3o deve-se, em parte, ao fato de a Turquia ficar “espremida” entre tr\u00eas placas tect\u00f4nicas que se atritam (a da Eur\u00e1sia, ao norte; a da \u00c1frica-Ar\u00e1bia, ao sul; e a da Anat\u00f3lia).<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> O terremoto foi seguido por mais de 40 tremores menores que sucederam o principal. Abalos “rasos”, como o desta segunda, t\u00eam mais chance de serem seguidos por eventos secund\u00e1rios do que aqueles mais “profundos”.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mais de 3 mil pessoas morreram e milhares ficaram feridas devido a um terremoto de magnitude 7,8 que atingiu a Turquia e o noroeste da S\u00edria na manh\u00e3 desta segunda-feira (6). Segundo o Servi\u00e7o Geol\u00f3gico dos Estados Unidos (USGS), o tremor foi t\u00e3o forte quanto um registrado no pa\u00eds em 1939 e que vitimou mais de 30 mil pessoas.<\/p>\n

Na Turquia, 2.300 morreram, segundo o \u00faltimo balan\u00e7o do governo; na S\u00edria, foram 1.444, segundo a ag\u00eancia de not\u00edcias Reuters.<\/p>\n

Esse foi um dos abalos s\u00edsmicos mais mortais que ocorreram nas \u00faltimas d\u00e9cadas na Turquia, uma das zonas de terremotos mais ativas do mundo. At\u00e9 a \u00faltima atualiza\u00e7\u00e3o desta reportagem, milhares de pessoas ainda estavam desaparecidas.<\/p>\n

Segundo especialistas e centros de pesquisa de atividades sismol\u00f3gicas, os principais pontos que podem explicar, em parte, o tamanho da destrui\u00e7\u00e3o provocada s\u00e3o:<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> O fato de que a Turquia fica espremida entre tr\u00eas placas tect\u00f4nicas que se atritam – a da Eur\u00e1sia ao norte, a da \u00c1frica-Ar\u00e1bia ao sul, e a Placa da Anat\u00f3lia.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Desta vez, o epicentro do tremor, ou seja, o ponto da superf\u00edcie onde o terremoto \u00e9 primeiro sentido, foi perto da cidade de Gaziantep, uma regi\u00e3o no centro-sul da Turquia bem perto da fronteira com a S\u00edria e pr\u00f3xima do encontro dessas placas.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Segundo o Centro Alem\u00e3o de Pesquisa em Geoci\u00eancias, esse epicentro foi a 10 quil\u00f4metros da superf\u00edcie, uma profundidade considerada baixa, muito pr\u00f3xima ao solo. O tremor de 1939, por exemplo, aconteceu a uma profundidade equivalente, cerca de 20 quil\u00f4metros.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Outro fator importante foi a for\u00e7a do abalo s\u00edsmico. Ao jornal “The New York Times”, Januka Attanayake, sism\u00f3logo da Universidade de Melbourne, na Austr\u00e1lia, disse que a energia liberada pelo tremor desta segunda foi equivalente a 32 petajoules, uma quantidade suficiente para abastecer a cidade de Nova York por mais de quatro dias.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Al\u00e9m de toda essa enorme quantidade de energia liberada inicialmente, de acordo com o USGS, o terremoto desta segunda foi seguido, 11 minutos depois, por um tremor secund\u00e1rio de magnitude 6,7 e, horas mais tarde, por um de magnitude 7,5, que provocaram maiores destrui\u00e7\u00f5es.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Fora isso, houve mais de 40 r\u00e9plicas \u2014 tremores menores que sucederam o principal.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Por causa das mudan\u00e7as na crosta terrestre, grandes terremotos s\u00e3o frequentemente seguidos por esses tremores secund\u00e1rios. O de 1939, por exemplo, tamb\u00e9m produziu tremores do tipo. Contudo, com o passar do tempo e a consequente recupera\u00e7\u00e3o das falhas, esses eventos se tornam cada vez mais raros.<\/p>\n

–<\/em><\/strong> Apesar disso, ainda de acordo com o USGS, terremotos mais rasos, como esse da Turquia, s\u00e3o muito mais prov\u00e1veis \u200b\u200bde serem seguidos por tremores secund\u00e1rios do que terremotos mais profundos, com epicentros maiores que 30 km de profundidade.<\/p>\n
